LEARN MORE ABOUT THE ROCKET APPARATUS FOR LIFESAVING AT SEA
Rocket equipment was stored inside the Oblesik to use in the case of an emergency at sea. A rocket was used to fire a line to a ship in distress from which a stronger rope or cable was drawn out from the shore to the ship, and along it was run a cradle or chair in which the shipwrecked persons were landed.
The first apparatus of this type was invented by Henry Trengouse in the UK in 1808.
